In 2013, the leaders of the BRICs countries decided to create the New Development Bank. Today our host Cody Weddle speaks with international analyst Basem Tajeldine about the advances made and challenges faced by the five major emerging national economies that make up BRICs: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Tajeldine addresses the issue of whether or not BRICs is truly an alternative to the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank and goes on to talk about the crisis faced by the United States and the countries of the European Union, the impact of a multipolar world on those institutions, and the potential represented by regional blocs sudh as MERCOSUR, CELAC, UNASUR and ALBA. The conversation also touches the proposal of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro for an alliance between BRICs and such regional blocks, as well as specific issues like the role of China, Russia and Greece in the rapidly changing world. teleSUR
